Maternal Newborn Services

Our maternal newborn services department at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering provides comprehensive facilities for labour and delivery and postpartum care.

Take a tour

Tours are available for expectant parents on Monday evenings at 8 p.m. (excluding holiday Mondays). The tour lasts just over an hour. There is no need to pre-register—simply meet us at the hospital for the start of the tour. Tours begin at the west entrance, nearby the emergency department.

Features

  • Level 2B special care nursery – This facility is designated to deliver and care for babies as premature as 32 weeks gestation.

  • Labour, birthing, and recovery (LBR) rooms

  • Additional post-partum beds

  • Family lounge with TV

  • Pantry/kitchenette with microwave and fridge

Rouge Valley Centenary

Birthing and Newborn Centre

Officially opened in January 2009, the birthing and newborn centre at Rouge Valley Centary provides women and their families the best in maternal and newborn care, including modern, comfortable birthing rooms that have been designed to accommodate families and friends, and advanced equipment and expertise for high-risk pregnancies and deliveries.

Features

Here are just some of the features of this state-of-the-art facility:

  • Advanced level 2C neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) – This facility is designated to deliver and care for babies as premature as 30 weeks gestation.

  • Labour, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) rooms - These patient-centred rooms are a comfortable space where mothers can experience the full birthing process, from labour to delivery to recovery. View a photo.

  • Post-partum beds - These beds are located in post-partum rooms, which are comfortable, homelike spaces where mothers and newborns are cared for together by the health care team.

  • Family lounge - This is an area for families to relax while awaiting a birth or while visiting the mother and newborn. View a photo.

  • Two overnight hostel rooms - These rooms for mothers and families who have been discharged before their babies are ready to go home.

  • Pantry/kitchenette
