CT Scanner
In June 1999, physicians, staff, the community and the Auxiliary
celebrated the arrival of a brand new CT Scanner at Rouge Valley Ajax
and Pickering. The hospital was able to purchase this $1.2
million brand new piece of specialized diagnostic equipment with the
help of the business and local community and with the Auxiliary’s
pledge of $500,000. The CT Scanner is a vital and valuable diagnostic tool which
allows for greater accuracy and earlier detection of
abnormalities. Since 1999, West Durham patients have been able to
get these specialized tests done at their local hospital.
Student Bursaries
Each year the Auxiliary awards 6 Registered Nursing Bursaries, 5
Registered Practical Nursing Bursaries and 6 Medically Related
Awards/Memorial Awards to high school students in Ajax and Pickering.
Special Needs Nursery
In the early 90s, the Auxiliary focused their fundraising attention
on the newest members of the West Durham community, the many babies born at
Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering. With a pledge of $500,000 from
the Auxiliary the hospital was able to build and equip a Special Needs
Nursery. Since then nurses and physicians have been able to
provide extra care and specialized equipment for fragile newborns at
the hospital. Special monitors, equipment and incubators
ensure the very best care. The Auxiliary also made sure that
rocking chairs and fold-out chairs were on hand for parents’
comfort.
Fluoroscope
In 1996 the Auxiliary pledged nearly $500,000 for new equipment in
Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering’s Diagnostic Imaging Department. In
just 30 months they had met that commitment and in 1998/99 the
hospital was able to purchase a new fluoroscope and radiology equipment
including new ultrasound machines, x-ray machines, processors and
an imager/server/processor.
