Clinical Student Placements
Rouge Valley values the remarkable contributions of students to our healthcare team. In partnership with academic colleges and universities, we are committed to providing an exceptional teaching and learning environment in which to shape your future career in healthcare. Under the guidance of our highly experienced, skilled and knowledgeable staff and physicians, we offer a wide range of clinical and practical learning experiences to students, in most clinical programs and services of Rouge Valley Health System.
Medical Students: RVHS offers clinical placement to Medical Students in a variety of areas. Clinical supervisors are self-selected and acceptance of students is contingent on individual physician's interest, time and practice pattern that support the placement. Pediatrics has been very supportive of medical students. Family practice in partnership with Scarborough Hospitals is in the process of developing the Residency program here at RVHS.
Observership: Internationally Trained Medical Graduates (IMG) is available at the discretion of the individual staff physician. In this instance the IMG will shadow a physician in order to become familiar with the context in which medicine is practiced in Ontario, knowledge that may assist in their pursuit of a Medical career. Shadowing is an informal arrangement made between the physician and the IMG.
College & University Practicum Students: Rouge Valley accepts diploma, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students from a wide range of disciplines who need to complete a supervised practicum as part of their academic requirements. Please note that inquiries from international students are also welcome; however, placements may be restricted to job shadowing only.
Student types include, but are not limited to Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Nuclear Medicine Technology, and Psychology. The Student Practicum Program includes a Student General Orientation, employee parking rate, preceptor workshops, and ongoing evaluation surveys to continuously improve the quality of the Student Practicum Program.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q: How do I initiate the process for student placements at your hospital?
A: You must first contact your school's Student Placement Coordinator who is on-site and responsible for requesting student placements within RVHS. If you are not certain who your school coordinator is, you should contact your school directly, so that they can connect you with the appropriate person. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept individual requests from students who do not have a Student Placement Coordinator at their school.
