As part of our new Strategic Plan‐on‐a‐Page and commitment to continuous improvement, the Hospital will provide all of its staff and physicians with the knowledge, tools, and support required to lead the industry in defining and delivering the best healthcare experience.

Reporting to the manager of Clinical Systems, the Clinical Application Analyst will be responsible for supporting front-line staff and managers to access information and clinical applications that they need in order to deliver better care to our patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance and enhancements to the existing Hospital  Information System, and participate in the implementation of new clinical applications. The candidate will interact with clinical users, write reports based on user requests using advanced reporting tools, determine the feasibility of user requests, and assist users to utilize the capabilities of existing and new information systems.

Duties:

  • Responsible for supporting modules of the Hospitals existing Information System (Meditech), including making functional enhancements, troubleshooting,
  • Participate in the implementation of new clinical applications

  • Analyze user data reporting requirements and prepare ad-hoc reports or develop automated reports utilizing advanced reporting tools.

  • Identify opportunities that can improve efficiency of clinical processes.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.

  • Analyze data contained in clinical and corporate databases and identify data integrity issues with existing and proposed systems and implement solutions.

  • Provide assistance and advice to clinical users in the effective use of applications and information technology.

  • Write technical notes and documentation for new and existing applications including technical documentation, user guides, etc.

  • Assist in the creation of the system design and functional specifications for new development projects

  • Assure that client requests are responded in timely and professional manner and resulting actions meet client expectations

  • Provide clinical applications training to audiences that include physicians, technicians, managers and clerical staff.

  • Utilize reports and other benchmarking tools to assist the Department Manager in evaluating department performance

  • Collaborate with Clinical Informatics Specialists and Clinical Practice Leaders in clinical system implementations.

  • Participate in clinical initiatives within areas of responsibility

  • Participate in Meditech system upgrades including configuring and testing of existing and new functionalities

  • Comply with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct

  • Comply with provincial and hospital guidelines related to the protection of health information and patient privacy e.g. FIPPA

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Solid training as a business and applications analyst. Knowledge of UML is desired.

  • Experience with workflow and business process modeling methodologies and tools.

  • experience in hospital data and reporting

  • Experience with Meditech or other Hospital Information system.

  • Programming skills and in particular ability to use scripting and reporting languages to create data reports. Good working knowledge of SQL is expected.

  • Project planning, management and implementation experience.

  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of the systems development lifecycle and processes.

  • Understanding of testing and quality control.

  • Knowledge of the healthcare domain, trends and standards,

  • Technical troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with HL7 health information exchange standard and interface development.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated commitment to client service

  • History of good attendance

  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

  • Able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Bachelor degree or recognized equivalent in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering or related field required.

  • 2-3 years health care industry experience preferred.

  • Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
