Reporting to the VP Finance & CFO, this position is responsible for day to day management of RVHS’ Risk Management function. This role serves as an expert resource for management, staff and physicians for patient safety improvements and effective management of identified risks to the corporation. S/he will manage and analyze risk management data, and facilitate risk management educational programs based upon identified need. This role will oversee the RVHS Business Continuity and Emergency preparedness planning and the Business Continuity and Emergency Preparedness Analyst. Key accountabilities include: investigation of clinical incidents and sentinel events; assisting with roll out of the RVHS’ Enterprise Risk Management program; risk consultation with internal stakeholders; insurance and claims management; and facilitating investigation of legal claims including liaison with legal counsel
- Bachelor’s Degree in the health field or other related field.
5 years of related work experience, specifically in a risk management role
Completed or working towards a Certificate in Risk Management
Expert understanding of insurance, claims management, and regulatory compliance
Knowledge and experience in coordinating Enterprise Risk Management activities, including Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity
Working knowledge and understanding of key legislation as it applies to hospital settings
Working knowledge of the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada
Demonstrated ability to facilitate investigation of medical/legal claims and participate in discoveries and mediation
Expert risk management skills
Expert problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate objectively and effectively with patients, staff and physicians at all levels as well as board members
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal professionally and discretely with sensitive issues
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
Proven ability to work with minimum supervision, take initiative and perform well in a stressful environment
Excellent computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office
Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Rouge Valley's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
