Patient Rooms PDF Print E-mail

Room types

Rouge Valley offers three types of rooms for patients who are admitted:

  1. Ward: Four patients to a room

  2. Semi-private: Two patients to a room

  3. Private: One patient to a room

OHIP covers the standard ward rate, but not the additional cost of private or semi-private rooms. If you want a private or semi-private room, you will pay the difference between the standard ward rate and the accommodation you choose.

Sometimes the private or semi-private rooms are all occupied. If you ask for one and it’s not available you will be booked into whatever is available. Then, if the type of room you prefer becomes available later, we’ll arrange for you to be transferred.

Meals

Nutritionally balanced meals are provided to patients three times daily. If you have any nutritional concerns or special dietary needs, please ask for a visit from a dietitian.

Nurse call system

The nurse call system will be explained when you are admitted to your room. Should you need help, you may use it to call the nursing station. If you have questions about this, please ask any member of your health care team.

Fire alarms

If you hear a fire alarm, it may just be our regular monthly fire drill. Stay in your room, close the door (if you are able) and await instructions from the staff. If it is more than just a drill, and the area you are in is at risk, staff will arrive quickly to assist you.  Patients who need help to leave will be taken out by the staff, while those who can go on their own will be told to do so. If you are told to leave the area, use the stairs and exit outside. Do not use an elevator.

Telephone usage

Patient telephones are available for incoming calls from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. To access an outside line, please press ‘9’ before dialling a number. To make a long distance call using a credit card or calling card, please press ‘0’ for operator assistance.

Television rentals

Television rentals are available through Hospitality Network, a long-standing television service provider in the Canadian health industry. Patients and their families can call the following numbers from within the patient room to set up their television service through Hospitality Network’s automated system:

  • Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering: Ext. 5430

  • Rouge Valley Centenary: Ext. 5430

Patients who rent a TV have access to the regular television channels and entertainment, as well as up-to-date hospital information on Channel 10, The Patient Channel, and Channel 29, The Parent Channel.

If you have problems with your television, please call 1-800-387-8223 during business hours.
