Teamwork
Teamwork is an important part of the Cancer Care Program, located at Rouge Valley Centenary and at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering.
Chemotherapy treament and follow up are carried out at our Rouge Valley Centenary hospital.
The doctors, nurses and other health care professionals involved in the care of cancer patients come from different disciplines of medicine such as surgery, radiology, internal medicine, haematology (blood) and oncology (cancer).
Members of the cancer care team work with the patient to identify their needs (such as the proper treatment for a disease, nutrition, psychological and social needs) and develop plans to meet those needs.
Leading our team is Dr. James Chiarotto, Head of the RVHS Oncology Program.

Surgical Oncology
Surgery is one of the treatments for cancer used to remove a tumour or mass. We have surgical specialists who do surgery for bowel, lung, breast, throat, and prostate cancer.
Palliative/Supportive Care
Palliative/Supportive Care at the Centenary site is managed by a very dynamic multi-disciplinary team. Team members include a nurse coordinator, a social worker, a chaplain, a discharge planner, and four physicians.
The goal of the team is to provide a combination of active and compassionate therapies intended to comfort and support individuals and families who are living with, or dying from, a progressive life threatening illness. This supportive care strives to meet the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual expectations and needs of the patient and family, while respecting personal, cultural, and religious beliefs and practices.
The program provides maximum comfort and dignity for the patients and emotional support for the families, assisting them with symptom management, and emotional support end-of-life care. A Palliative Care Physician is available 24 hours/7 days a week on a referral basis.
