Rouge Valley Centenary, in east Toronto at Ellesmere and Neilson, is a dynamic, hospital positioned to offer priority services for Cardiac Care, General and Orthopedic surgery, Mental Health and Maternal and Newborn health.  Rouge Valley Ajax & Pickering, located in Ajax, serves the growing west Durham population as its quality community hospital. Both hospital sites have 24/7 Emergency Departments.

Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine department is a vibrant and committed team of 18 Internists including seven Cardiologists, two Nephrologists, four Gastroenterologists, two Oncologists, an Endocrinologist with support from Infectious Disease. Rouge Valley is committed to significantly grow its staffing in the Department of Medicine to further strengthen its ability to serve the community in the future.

Rotation

All participating Internists at Rouge Valley Centenary rotate through the call schedule, covering Internal Medicine, and all subspecialties.

Patients are admitted to the service primarily through the Emergency and are cared for by Physicians most suited to look after their needs.

The night call frequency is divided equally amongst all participating members and we rely on collegiality and a team approach to patient care. On call frequency will decrease proportionally for all members of the Department of Medicine with the planned expansion of the medical staff in the department.

New General Internist Program

We are in the midst of starting a new, General Internist Program. Successful candidates for this model will have the opportunity to participate in:

-  Perioperative surgical clinics; Psychiatric admission clinics and rapid referral;

-  Post-Emergency clinics;

-  Other subspecialty procedures and roles.

Highlights of our new General Internist Program include:

-  Night call frequency is mandated to be no more than one share of the total Internal Medicine pool.

-   Internist based clinics are subsidized for administrative support

-  Competitive income opportunity.

We plan to bring on a minimum of five Internists and Sub-specialists to achieve broad based specialty care, and a call frequency of a maximum 1 in 24.

RVHS is an excellent acute care community hospital, with many programs including 24/7/365 emergency, cardiac care and mental health. Rouge Valley consists of several health sites, including two community hospital campuses: Rouge Valley Centenary in east Toronto; and Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering in west Durham. Together, a team of physicians (224 general practitioners and 325 specialists), 1,000 nurses and many other professionals care for a broad spectrum of health conditions. Working in consultation and partnership with community members, other hospitals, health care organizations, the Central East Local Health Integration Network and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Rouge Valley continues to improve its programs and cater to the needs of the growing communities of east Toronto, Ajax, Pickering and Whitby.
