Prenatal Classes

On this page: What you will learn | Register for class | Important information for attending classes

As your community hospital, we are here to support you and your family as you get ready for one of the most cherished moments in your life—the birth of your new baby.

Our prenatal classes are taught by qualified labour and delivery nurses who will guide you through the information you need to know about having a baby—from what to do when you go into labour, to important tips for caring for your newborn.

Each class is about eight hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Class size is limited to 10 labour partners (expecting mother and her adult support person), that is why it is best to register early to ensure your place.

What you will learn in class

Our classes are very comprehensive. And since classes are taught by labour and delivery nurses, you can feel comfortable knowing that they have the experience to be able to answer almost any question you have about delivering your baby.

Here is an outline of what you will learn at our prenatal class:

  • What to expect in labour

  • Stages of labour and coping strategies

  • Breathing techniques for labour

  • Hospital information and procedures

  • Induction and caesarean birth information

  • Medical interventions

  • Postpartum care

  • Newborn care

  • Breastfeeding basics

We will provide you with a package of materials that has information on everything that is covered in class. In addition, we will also provide you with a tour of our birthing facilities. (Take a virtual tour of our birthing centres.)

We will also have time for open discussion and a chance to go over any questions.

Registering for class

You can now register for our Prenatal Class online. We ask for you to have a first and second choice for the date so that we are better able to fit you into one of our classes.

The fee for the class is $125. You can make this payment at our Cashier Office at either hospital campus, over the phone or online at the bottom of our registration form. Once your payment has been processed, we will give you a call to confirm the date of your class.
