Community Advisory Groups and Committees
Community Advisory Group
The Community Advisory Group is an important advisory group to the RVHS Board of Directors. This voluntary body is comprised of members, who reflect the diverse communities and viewpoints that make up the Rouge Valley area of east Toronto and west Durham.
The primary purpose of the Community Advisory Group is to ensure that RVHS is made aware of the needs and viewpoints of the community. The advisory group helps to extend Rouge Valley's communications network, serving as a vital means for reaching out into the community and facilitating ongoing dialogue and engagement.In particular, the advisory group is mandated to:
- Bring forward community views on health care needs and issues;
- Help communicate to Rouge Valley's diverse communities;
- Provide advice and feedback on current issues that Rouge Valley faces; and
- Help in encouraging health decision-makers to support local health needs.

Community/Family Advisory Committees for Hospital Programs
Rouge Valley Health System invites you to participate in a variety of program-specific committees.
Consulting with health services users about their needs and experiences of the health care system is an important way of ensuring that we are offering the highest quality care to our community.
Current Committees
At the present time, Rouge Valley has involved its communities through six Community/Family Advisory Committees:
Cardiac Care Community Advisory Committee: A cross-site committee focused on advocacy for more cardiac services across the Rouge Valley Health System.
Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering Mental Health Services Community Advisory Committee/Rouge Valley Centenary Mental Health Services Community Advisory Committee: These campus-specific program committees both have the same purpose, which is to develop and maintain effective avenues of communication between the mental health program, consumers, family members and community agencies. Through these committees, a forum is created which allows the members to have input, in an advisory capacity, into the mental health program at the specific sites, in order to meet the needs of the community.
Cancer/Palliative Community Advisory Committee: A cross-site committee comprised of community and staff representatives from both sites. The group meets four times a year, providing networking opportunities for the Cancer Care community, promoting awareness of the services in the community and identifying quality issues and educational opportunities for the service.
The Pacers Group: A group of pacemaker patients at RVC who meet annually to discuss issues related to their pacemakers and provide informal feedback to the service.
Complex Continuing Care Residents’ Council: This group of program staff discuss issues specifically related to the CCC unit at RVC, and then solicit feedback on the program from patients and their families through a quarterly survey.
Future Committees
Our goal is to expand upon the current situation by developing Community/Family Advisory Committees in each of the following areas:
A combined Medicine/Surgery/Emergency Community/Family Advisory Committee at RVAP
A combined Medicine/Surgery/Emergency Community/Family Advisory Committee at RVC
An issue-specific Women’s and Children’s Services Community/Family Advisory Committee across the system with membership structured as required
A system wide Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care (CCC) Community/Family Advisory Committee with alternating discussions on Rehab or CCC and membership structured to support this rotation
If you are interested in participating on these new Community/Family Advisory Committees, please contact David Brazeau, director, public affairs and community relations, at dbrazeau@rougevalley.ca
