Nov. 13, 2009 - The latest physician to join the Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) medical team will help continue the hospital’s commitment and leadership in cardiac care.
Cardiologist Dr. Raymond Yan recently began seeing patients at both RVHS hospital campuses, including Rouge Valley Centenary (RVC) in east Toronto and Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering (RVAP) in west Durham Region.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Yan as a part of our medical team here at Rouge Valley. With his skills and education, we look forward to the contribution he will make to our cardiac care team, and our continued focus on quality patient care,” says Dr. Joe Ricci, program chief, cardiac care, RVHS. Rouge Valley’s cardiac care program plays a leadership role in cardiac services within the area, as outlined in the Central East Local Health Integration Network’s (CE LHIN) Hospital Clinical Services Plan.
Dr. Yan, who is originally from Hong Kong, joins RVHS from the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed a two-year cardiac imaging fellowship in cardiology.

As a hospital that is quickly establishing itself as a leader in cardiac care within this area, it’s a wonderful opportunity to be a part of hospital that can offer such a high caliber and vast array of cardiac care to its patients,” says Dr. Yan.
Dr. Yan earned a bachelor of applied science, a masters in applied science, and his medical degree at the University of Toronto. He has also completed residencies in internal medicine at McMaster University and cardiology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Yan, who also speaks Cantonese fluently, lives in Scarborough with his wife and two young children.

Rouge Valley’s cardiac care program has a full-service approach to delivering care. The program offers emergency treatment, as well as scheduled procedures in the catheterization lab at the Rouge Valley Centenary hospital campus. In addition, Rouge Valley Centenary has a nine-bed coronary care unit and 10 fully-monitored inpatient beds, while there are seven fully-monitored beds at the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital campus.
The RVHS cardiac care program offers complete diagnostic services at both hospital campuses. The program also features advanced electrophysiology, including device implantation and follow-up care, in its clinics. A comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program, with individualized exercise and supportive education, is offered at Rouge Valley Centenary.
