Child and Adolescent Mental Health
Rouge Valley Health System has a comprehensive mental health program for children and adolescents. The program includes a six-bed Inpatient Unit, a Day Hospital, as well as a Crisis Team and outpatient child and adolescent mental health delivered at The Shoniker Clinic. The program is designed to provide integrated and seamless services to children and adolescents with significant mental health problems.
The Shoniker Clinic
The Shoniker Clinic is a child and adolescent mental health clinic that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of significant mental health problems. The clinic accepts physician referrals for youth under the age of 19 who reside in Scarborough, Pickering or Ajax. An interdisciplinary team provides assessments, individual and family therapy, parent education, group therapy and medication management.
One of the programs at The Shoniker Clinic is the First Intervention Treatment Team (FITT), which supports young people who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis. This intensive service is available to clients up to the age of 35 who live in Scarborough. Physician referral is required.
